We live in the mountains and, therefore, mountain family photos are in high demand.

My favorite locations for photos with the best mountain backdrop are the Black Balsam Knob and Max Patch. Both of these are accessible with a short easy hike. That makes them suitable for families with small children as well as expecting mamas. For these mountain family photos we chose Max Patch. Max Patch is a bald mountain on the North Carolina-Tennessee Border a little over an hour west of Asheville. The nice thing is that it is accessible all year round as there are no road closures in the winter many parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In the cooler months it important to be prepared and add those fun layers to your outfit. Cooler temperatures, however, are always a nice reprieve in the summer!

It was a sunny pleasant day when we took these fall photos to mark baby L.’s first birthday. She was all smiles and quite obsessed with the small red chair I brought along. And once she figured out you can climb on it and try to stand, there was no stopping her from making all sorts of acrobatic creations.
