A winter family photo session can be as much fun and as beautiful as a photo session during any other season. With little bit more planning winter months photos can be done. More attention should be given to the wardrobe and location. It can be cold in the winter and no one enjoys being cold and miserable. Layers is the answer! While bulky winter jackets do not look good in photos; sweaters, vests, scarves, stylish hats and boots do. Layer up. Do not be afraid of more color in your outfits in the winter. Color will make your photos truly pop.

The location needs to be carefully selected as well. Not every location is equally photogenic in the winter, Nevertheless, there are still plenty of spots that work well. Perhaps a spot with some evergreens may work really well in the winter. Or place with some architectural interest. Additionally, it also may be a good idea to choose a shorter session (my Petite session) to limit the time in the cold.

This was my first session of 2025. Little puppy joined the family over the holidays and mom had these new matching sweaters she wanted to use so we met to capture this special time in the family’s life.
