I get so excited when I am asked to photograph a maternity photo session in the mountains. We live is such a beautiful and unique area so it only makes sense to take an advantage. For the truly spectacular views and suitable location for a session, a drive is necessary, but always worth it. Each of my favorite mountain spots also involves a easy short hike. Nothing a child or an expecting mama cannot handle. However, these locations are not suitable for people with lesser mobility.

A big plus with these mountain locations is the cooler temperatures during the hot summer days. In the upper elevations the difference might be up to 10 degrees which is so nice in the summer. In the cooler months you have to prepare for the opposite. Expect colder temps and dress appropriately.

We had the perfect day for this couple’s maternity photo session on Black Balsam Knob. The sky was slightly overcast which gave us a dreamy light. I remember it being little breezy, but nothing more than the typical mountain blow. If anything, it added some movement and wind-blown hair.
