Don’t miss out on maternity photos

Please, don’t miss out on maternity photos – my plea to the mama who almost didn’t book

maternity photos

If you’ve found yourself wondering whether maternity photos are really necessary, you’re not alone. Many expecting mothers pause before booking a maternity photography session, often because they’re unsure what to expect—or whether now is the “right” time.

From time to time, a mother tells me, “I almost didn’t book my maternity photos.” When I hear that, I’m reminded how easy it is for this season of pregnancy to pass without being documented.

Pregnancy is a time of constant change. Your body shifts week by week, your energy fluctuates, and your emotions often sit close to the surface. Because of that, it’s common to feel hesitant about being photographed. Some mothers worry they won’t feel confident in front of the camera. Others assume they should wait until they feel more like themselves again—or save photos for after the baby arrives.

Here’s something that often helps to understand:
Maternity photos aren’t about looking a certain way. They’re about documenting a season of life.

Maternity photography focuses on preserving the connection between you and your baby before birth. The curve of your belly, the way your hands rest there without thinking, and the quiet moments where you pause and take it all in—these details tell a story that you can’t recreate later. Once pregnancy ends, that chapter closes quickly.

As a maternity photographer, my role goes far beyond taking photos. I guide you through gentle posing, help you find flattering angles, and create a relaxed environment so you don’t feel awkward or unsure. You don’t need prior experience in front of a camera, and you don’t need to arrive feeling confident. Most mothers are surprised by how calm and comfortable the experience feels once we begin.

Another important thing to consider is who these images are for. While maternity photos absolutely matter for you, they also become part of your child’s story. One day, your child will be able to see how deeply you  loved them before they were even born—and what this season looked like for you.

Many mothers tell me that their maternity photos become more meaningful over time. What might feel unfamiliar or vulnerable now often turns into appreciation later. With distance, you begin to see the strength in your body and the emotion written across your face.

So if you’re the mama who almost didn’t book maternity photos, consider this a gentle reminder: you don’t need perfect timing, and you don’t need to change anything about yourself. Pregnancy is already enough of a reason to document.

This chapter matters.
Your experience matters.
And maternity photos give you a way to remember it clearly, long after it has passed. Please do not miss out on your maternity photos.
